Electric cooling
fans cannot work on it's own. It works efficiently with the help of different
supporting parts. Some cooling fans are controlled with the help of engine computer
while others work on the basis of a thermostatic switch. Fan switches sense
temperature of the car engine and turn on the electric fan or electric water
pump when the cooling is needed. Different fan switches have different temperature
settings to enable the required operation at a desired temperature.
The electric fan
with the help of the thermostatic fan switch automatically turns on when the
temperature of the engine goes above a set point. Similarly it stops when the
temperature goes back to normal. The thermostatic fan switch that is used by
the electric fan is nothing but electric fan sensor.
Thermal Switch
Range
- Thermatic Fan
Switch: This mechanical switch is placed inside the radiator hose to detect
the cooling system temperature. This type of fan switches is more or less
adjustable from 80 deg C to 115 deg C. They are suitable for operation with
12 and 24-volt systems.
- Electronic Thermal
Switch: This mechanical switch detects the temperature of incoming air to
be mounted on the face of the radiator core. This type of fan switch is adjustable
from 40 deg C to 99 deg C. They are only suitable for 12 Volts operation.
- Thermal Switch
and Relay: This type of fan switch is very similar to thermatic fan switch
which allow operation both thermally and when air conditioner is running.
They are only suitable for 12 Volts operation.
